Texas Health Resources
Headquartered in the competitive Dallas-Fort Worth health market, Texas Health Resources (THR) is one of the largest faith-based, non-profit health care delivery systems in the United States. The system serves more than 6.3 million people living in 29 counties in north central Texas. In 2006, more than one in five area residents receiving in-patient care sought treatment at a THR hospital. THR was formed in 1997 to acquire the assets and operations of Fort Worth-based Harris Methodist Health System and Dallas-based Presbyterian Healthcare Resources. Later that year, Arlington Memorial Hospital joined the THR system. With over $2.5 billion in annual revenue, it is the largest fully integrated, nonprofit healthcare organization in Texas and one of the largest systems in the United States. THR has 14 acute-care hospitals (not including joint venture facilities) with approximately 2,600 licensed hospital beds, employs 18,000 people and counts more than 3,800 physicians with active staff privileges at its hospitals. Also included are one home health agency and one extended care hospital.

Position Summary
The President of the Texas Health Research and Education Institute will have responsibility for establishing the strategic agenda for the institute and guiding the institute forward in its objectives. The President will promote collaboration across the System in clinical research and graduate and continuing medical education by fostering system wide effort in research and education priorities. System research priorities in Comparative Effectiveness and Outcomes, Health Information Technology and Community Health as well as clinical service line research (e.g. orthopedics, cardiac services, neurosciences, oncology, gastroenterology, and women's services) that engage at the entity, zone and system level provide the basis for a long term strategic focus. He/she will provide the platform organization that is attractive to industry sponsors and federal granting agencies for grants that require large patient enrollment and have the ability to effectively foster, manage and support protocols in the system level priorities through biostatistics, epidemiology and grant writing support. Moreover he/she will develop partnerships to advance research, patient care and education, e.g., universities, other health systems, hospital council, and physician practices. There is an abundance of patient research and teaching material not only in the THR urban hospital entities, but also in the suburban and rural entities. Historically, opportunities to include them and their respective medical staffs in research activities have not been systematically explored, but will be under the purview of the President.

Education
Candidates must be licensed, board-certified physicians or hold a Ph.D. in a health or scientific related domain. Additional relevant education and training with degrees such as an M.B.A., M.P.H, M.S. will be considered a plus but are not required.

Experience
•An experienced, respected clinical scientist. Demonstrable record of achievement in clinical and / or translational research including successful pursuit of peer reviewed as well as externally funded research grants and a record of publication in peer reviewed publications.

•Experienced leadership within a graduate medical education program is strongly preferred. Knowledgeable about current and future trends in graduate and continuing medical education and experience in education delivery.

•Preferred background in a clinical research setting of an academic group practice, hospital, university or research institute.

•Experience with Institutional Review Boards and research compliance.

•Proven track record of success in establishing productive and enduring relationships with pharmaceutical firms, medical device companies and other potential business partners including the ethical and strategic issues regarding relationships between providers and industry.
